Various names of bodhisattvas, while representing their specific virtues and vows in delivering sentient beings, actually embody the qualities of the Buddha—compassion, wisdom, vows and practice. Guanyin Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara) and Earth Treasury Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha) are popular among Chinese Buddhists mainly because they meet their needs, respectively providing help in this life and helping them to avoid hell in the next.
