What are the Four Reliances? (GDD-682, Master Sheng-Yen)
They are the four principles for Buddhists to follow to determine whether a given teaching is the genuine Buddhadharma, or your belief is correct.
The four reliances are 1) relying on the teaching, not on any person; 2)relying on intuitive wisdom, not on intellectual understanding; 3)relying on the true meaning, not on the words; 4) relying on the ultimate teaching, not expedient teaching.
