Buddha’s Birthday and Multicultural Festival

Hundreds of people gathered over the weekend to celebrate the Buddha’s birthday and Multicultural Festival at the Fo Guang Shan Temple in Perth. Celebrating Buddha’s birthday is a tradition observed by the temple since its opening in 1998.

[Grace Collins, Promotions and Publicity Chief]
“…Embrace multiculturalism and incorporate it into the celebration in the hope that people from all walks of life can come in, and we welcome them with open arms and we have activities for the young and old for the people who are Buddhist and non Buddhist should be able to enjoy living kindness and compassion of the Buddha…”
Other activities included the Baby Blessing Ceremony where children under the age of seven may be blessed by the Venerable.

Visitors were also treated to international performances from around the world, not to mention, a range of multi-cultural delicacies offered by international food stalls.
Visitors who attended on Saturday were privileged to a precession “Arms Round” where offerings were given. The offerings will go toward the Nan Tien Institute – a tertiary centre of Buddhist education being constructed in Sydney.
